Brant Point
While Nantucket offers many different "neighborhoods" and areas on island, one of the most popular certainly is Brant Point.
The area's most notable landmark is the Brant Point Light seen by all as they arrive on the island by ferry. Established in 1746 at the request of sea captains at a town meeting, 200 pounds was voted on by the people to build the light..
The current light which was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in October of 1987, is the tenth such light on that spot. Over the years previous structures were blown over, burned down, condemned or deemed unsatisfactory. It is the second oldest light in the U.S. after only the Boston Light in Boston Harbor.
Brant Point's popularity for homeowners and renters alike stems largely from its location. Situated next to the Town of Nantucket it provides easy access to Beaches (Jetties Beach, Children's Beach, Steps Beach) as well as Downtown with its shops, restaurants, art galleries etc.
Families who come to vacation can walk off the ferry and walk to their house and never need a car. Children can walk to the Beach and home very easily.
